It is also used in diluted form in umblical cord disinfection, Oral rinse solutions, Handrubs etc., Chlorhexidine, is a disinfectant and antiseptic that is used for skin disinfection before surgery and to sterilize surgical instruments. It may be used both to disinfect the skin of the patient and the hands of the healthcare providers. Chlorhexidine gluconate has been incorporated into a number of hand hygiene preparations. Aqueous or detergent formulations containing 0.5%, 0.75% , or 1% chlorhexidine are more effective than plain soap.
