The transducer converts the ultrasonic frequency voltage from the generator into ultrasonic mechanical vibration of the same frequency by an inverse piezoelectric effect. It consists of a number of piezoceramic sheets sandwiched between two metal (usually titanium) blocks. A thin metal plate is formed between the sheet and the sheet to form an electrode. When a sinusoidal electrical signal is supplied to the transducer via the electrodes, the piezoelectric sheet expands and contracts, producing an axial peak-to-peak motion of 15-201 xm. The transducer is a precision device and should be handled with care.
