Components of a Distillation Column

• Column Shell: A cylindrical vessel that houses the internal components.

  Trays (e.g., sieve, bubble cap, or valve trays) help create contact between liquid and vapor phases.
  Packing (random or structured) offers high surface area for efficient mass transfer.
  
  
• Feed Point: The inlet where the liquid mixture enters
  
• Reboiler: Provides heat to the column, vaporizing the bottom product to drive separation.
• Condenser: Condenses the vapor from the top of the column to produce a liquid distillate.
• Distillate Outlet: Collects the purified product from the top.
• Bottom Outlet: Collects heavier components (residuals or by-products) from the bottom.
